The story begins between 1939 and 1940, against the backdrop of World War II and the imminent entry of Fascist Italy into the conflict. Students at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome try to realize their dreams and experience their own experiences of friendship and love, suffering bitter disappointments or accepting some compromises.
